“All we can do is try, Magnus. I choose to believe that our hardships make us stronger. Everything we’ve been through on this voyage—it matters. It increases our chances of victory.”

I’m not sure how much time passed. It seemed impossible that there had been any life before this one: breaking ice, pushing ice, shivering, dying.

“Yeah,” I said. “That means God is great, right?” Sam shook her head. “That’s a slightly inaccurate translation. It means God is greater.” “Than what?” “Everything.
