A nation’s level of civilization can be measured by the way it treats its oldest and weakest citizens. The short-sighted and disrespectful way elder care is being slashed in the Netherlands is creating a fertile breeding ground for gray-haired populism. We live in one of the richest countries in the world, but again and again the message is, Your care is unaffordable.
