In books, the teacher is always right, and the heroine learns something. If this were a book about my life, I would have had some big realization doing this assignment. I’d have broken through my wall of resistance and suddenly experienced drawing in a new way—more honest, more fulfilling. My high-art self-portrait would reveal so much more about me than my cheapo comic book stuff ever could. It would be honest, true and emotional.
I guess there’s a reason superheroes rarely name themselves. They’re usually given their titles by the news media or the adoring public, so they can be called stuff like Superman without having to say, “Yeah, I just looked in the mirror and thought, wow, I am just a super man, aren’t I?”
What do I want in a guy, anyway? I might be pretty happy dating a geek who can really shake it.
