Like the Madagascan Carnivores, DNA evidence now unites these rodents in an exclusive group, implying that a single founding population diversified to fill all these different rodent niches: a very Madagascan story. Fascinatingly the evidence also produces almost identical dates (20 to 25 Ma) for the colonisation of Madagascar by Carnivores and rodents. Was one chasing the other?
