When Patrick Breen’s mare became mired in a sinkhole, he turned to William Eddy for help. Eddy reminded Breen of his unwillingness to lend a horse to rescue Hardcoop and refused to give any assistance. Breen struggled alone but to no avail, and the horse smothered in the thick mud.
