Titles that are too specific become straitjackets, confining people to a limited set of duties, encouraging a bureaucratic mindset that employees are cogs in a machine. While generalist titles might feel uncertain, they provide wiggle room that allows for career growth, and encourage dealing with those who have these titles as people, not labels.
