On 11 July 2005, a joint team of Mumbai and Delhi Police intercepted a car in the national capital and arrested Vicky Malhotra, a key aide of Dawood’s rival Chhota Rajan, who was wanted in numerous criminal cases, including murder and extortion. Surprisingly, accompanying Malhotra was Ajit Doval, a former chief of the IB and one of India’s most celebrated spies, who went on to become the national security advisor (NSA) to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014.
