The creature—Davian could not believe it was human—continued toward them, reaching the first soldier. Without pausing, it flicked out its arm as it passed. The action was casual, dismissive. Almost disdainful.

Would be so cool if these things turned out to be the first Augurs who yet live, still using essence but having lost their truesight and so now seek the next generation of Augers to divine for them or restore themselves so they can see again finally.
