Instead of being upset, Chase looked thoroughly pleased with my story. Proud, even.
He wound my long hair around his hand a few times and closed it into a fist, using it to tug my head back.
I thought the email was funny because there were so many misspelled words and grammar errors.
“Ch…Ch…Ch—” I couldn’t get the word out. Of course, Chase didn’t miss a beat. He smirked and leaned in. “You do a cute train impression, Buttercup.”
But instead, he glanced back over his shoulder to where Bryant was swimming, and then pulled me in for a hug, wrapping my ponytail around his fist and tugging my head back to look up at him. His eyes lingered on my lips before he kissed my forehead. “Later, cuz.”
“Stop worrying. Harassment policy only applies to employees, not to the owner. Checked this morning.”
“Actually, I’m usually not. You just keep hitting on me, and I can’t help but react. It’s kind of inappropriate, considering I’m your boss and all.”
“I think it took me this long to realize what moving on meant. It doesn’t mean forgetting what you’ve left behind. It means making her a memory and deciding to have a future without her in it.”
“Sounds like what you really need is someone to make you feel safe. The rest will just fall into place.”
