A year after India gained independence one would have expected remorse to have set in among the Congress leadership. But, during and after ‘police action’ (in reality military action) in Hyderabad, a brazenly anti-Muslim attitude surfaced. The Nizam of Hyderabad had refused to surrender sovereignty to the new nation which outraged Congress leaders.
