Jinnah did not speak Urdu and those who used the English idiom were non-existent in our circle. Membership of the Muslim League was a bargaining tactic used by taluqdars and big landlords. They did not want to give up their palaces and their lifestyle. Pakistan was never the goal; it was a bargaining chip.
