Socrates (c469-399 BCE) is said to be the father of philosophy, a controversial figure in Greek history, he was a gifted teacher. His pedagogical style was to ask questions of his pupils and use their answers to improve their way of reasoning - a style still used today that bears his name, as it's commonly referred to as the Socratic Method.
