The slaves ‘think’ they are looking after their own siblings and they are presumably doing whatever would be appropriate in their own nests to achieve their desired 3:1 bias in favour of sisters. But the queen of the slave-making species is able to get away with counter-measures and there is no selection operating on the slaves to neutralize these counter-measures, since the slaves are totally unrelated to the brood.
