The better the singer the greater his inner torment. The keener his musical sense the greater the anguish he will suffer due to the insecurity he will feel as he nods to the conductor, faces his audience, opens his mouth, takes in his first deep breath, clasps his hands and propels the air through his vocal cords, hoping to God that the sound he produces bears some resemblance to the right musical tone.
