well, life is a bitch. And what do you do with a bitch? You fuck it!
If I were a good man, I would pick her up and carry her to her bed and make love to her. I would show her what it’s like to be cherished and that she’s worth more than what she has been told. But I’m not a good man; I’m a fucking bastard who uses people to my advantage.
Leaning up against the far wall, I get comfortable watching the exchange with a small smile on my face. Letting everyone know that I am happy for my best friend, while on the inside, I’m dying. I once wanted this life. Love. A wife. A house full of kids. Can you believe that I once wanted to be a firefighter? Yeah, I had this life planned out. My wife was going to be a nurse, and I was gonna be a firefighter. Boy, was I ever wrong.
He’s all you got, Skye. Are you going to push away someone who can help you? Someone who has connections in this town? He probably has more pull than a cop. But he’s lying. A man like him doesn’t come for free. I’ve seen it before. I’ve lived it before. I told myself that I would never let myself go there again. He’ll cost me everything I have in the end. The question is what am I willing to pay? For Tiffany, I’d pay anything.
She kneed me in the balls.
I haven’t always been one to choose violence. But I do love the way that it makes me feel alive. The way she stared at me hopelessly. She made me feel something for just a second, and it was breathless.
“Haven’t you ever known someone worth dying for?” she asks, and my chest tightens. “She is worth everything to me. She was there when no one else was. You expect me to give up on that?”
“Be careful who you trust, Skye. Not all men would walk away when you willingly allow them the opportunity to take advantage of you.”
Brecken scares me. I wouldn’t be able to sleep, afraid he would come in and kill me. Or turn me on. The man is like gasoline. He would light me on fire only to leave me to burn to death. And I have a feeling I would enjoy it.
Three men came running into our house last night while we were sleeping and took us away from home. I yelled for Mommy and Daddy, but they separated us. They brought us to a place I’ve never been before, and a guy by the name of Luca locked my father away.
“I haven’t fallen for her. I’m protecting her.” “There’s a difference there, and I know exactly which one you are doing,” Jet spits. “Especially after last night …”
“Hello, Skye.” My stomach drops at the sound of my name. “It’s been a long time.” His deep voice is controlled, calm even. And it scares me more. “Luca … how did you …” “You can’t run forever,” he says,
“You drive me fucking nuts,” he admits with a deep growl. “You have no regard for your life. You act like you want to die. You act as if you can save the world on your own.”
“I want you in my bed. I want you begging me for more.”
“I want you to beg me to fuck you! And then when I’m done with you, I want you to beg me to do it again.”
He’s pierced. Oh, good God. He has a Prince Albert. I’ve never been with someone pierced.
Doesn’t matter how you live your life, it can end tomorrow. And if I were to die in my sleep tonight, I want this man to be the last thing I do.
Well, I’m making her mine, and she’s going to realize that being mine isn’t as easy as it sounds.
I can feel his strong heartbeat on my back and his strong muscles as he holds me. And for once in my life, I shut my eyes and think of the man who is protecting me, not the man who is after me.
“God, I wanna fuck you so bad, baby.” I whimper. “I want to fuck you so hard that you can’t walk afterward.” His hand tightens, and it takes my air away. I close my eyes as if his hand alone is a drug that gets me high. His lips trail back up my neck to my ear. “I wanna fuck you so hard that you can’t walk out on me,”
She just doesn’t realize who I am. Who the fuck she is dealing with. I’m fucking Brecken Hawke. My only goal at the moment is to own her! To fucking make her understand that I’m the only man she will ever need.
“You’re my toy, Skye. You’re my toy that I don’t wanna put down. You’re the toy that I want to use over and over again. I wanna fucking own you,”
“Not everything is worth something,” she says simply. I place my hand on her face and force her to look over at me. Her dark green eyes glisten from unshed tears. “I agree with you,” I say, and she swallows. “But I think you’re worth something,” I say without thought.
“You are staying right here. With me, where you belong.” Then his lips crash to mine.
“What would bring him back to a town that holds so many bad memories?” I ask in wonder. She gives me a soft smile as she looks me up and down. “I think the answer is right in the mirror.”
“I don’t know what this is, honestly, but I know that when I’m with you, I find myself smiling. I know that when I’m not with you, all I do is worry about you.
Eventually, we all burn for our sins. I’ve doused myself in gasoline, and she has lit the match.
For once, since Nicole, I think I want a wife and kids. A future. I want Skye to give me those things.
He’s exactly who people said he was. Dangerous. A murderer. A man who doesn’t take no for an answer. But he is also sweet. Loving. And he makes me weak in the knees.
“You make me crazy. I’m afraid, and you are fearless. I’m your knight, and you’re my demon. I want to protect you and all you do is run right into the fire.”
“I say you won’t survive without me, but the truth is I won’t survive without you.”
“I love you, Skye.” I quit breathing. “I love you, baby.” He softly smiles down at me as if he is relieved to say those words. “I love how you make me crazy. I love how you need me. And I love how I need you. I’m begging you to stay. I’m begging you to give me another chance. I may be a sinner, but you, you are my savior, Skye. I have lived a life of nothing but deceit and evilness. But baby, even evil knows love when it finds it.”
Because if you walk out that door …” He shakes his head. “I won’t survive.”
A woman who can love your darkness is a woman who knows just how consuming the dark can be. It can swallow you up, giving you no way of escape. But Skye, she’s my escape. She is my light. And she shines brighter than the sun.
