It was during this visit, in early January 1995, that McVeigh, in a conversation with Terry Nichols, accidently let it slip during “a fit of rage” that his “high level handler” was none other than Larry Potts, lead FBI agent at Ruby Ridge and the siege at Waco, Texas. Nichols said McVeigh was extremely angry and accused Potts of “manipulating him and forcing him to ‘go off script,’” which Nichols took to mean that the target of the bombing and the date it was to occur had been changed by someone other than McVeigh.
