Ricoeur tends to mistake the other as always and ever the victim, and conversely, the victim as the other. This mistake tempts minorities and the Western Left as a whole and reveals two potential problems with the ethics of recalling others—either mistaking oneself as that idealized, innocent other, or idealizing the other as guilt-free while incriminating oneself.
