What happens in a priority inversion is that a low-priority task takes possession of a system resource (access to a database, let’s say) to do some work, but is then interrupted partway through that work by a timer, which pauses it and invokes the system scheduler. The scheduler tees up a high-priority task, but it can’t run because the database is occupied.
