Even though some have proposed that Adam’s failure was that he did not take the “lead” in resisting Satan’s temptation and instead stood by passively while Eve fell into sin,41 the text itself points to the primary aspect of his failure as his disobedience instead.42 The importance of Adam’s disobedience should not be underestimated, especially since Paul affirms this understanding in Rom. 5.
