Then Moses and Aaron, Na'dab, and Abi'hu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went up, 10and they saw the God of Israel; and there was under his feet as it were a pavement of sapphire stone, like the very heaven for clearness. 11And he did not lay his hand on the chief men of the people of Israel; they beheld God, and ate and drank.
19All the holy offerings which the sons of Israel present to the LORD I give to you, and to your sons and daughters with you, as a perpetual debt; it is a covenant of salt for ever before the LORD for you and for your offspring with you."
Duty to a Brother's Widow 5 "If brothers dwell together, and one of them dies and has no son, the wife of the dead shall not be married outside the family to a stranger; her husband's brother shall go in to her, and take her as his wife, and perform the duty of a husband's brother to her. 6And the first son whom she bears shall succeed to the name of his brother who is dead, that his name may not be blotted out of Israel. 7And if the man does not wish to take his brother's wife, then his brother's wife shall go up to the gate to the elders, and say, 'My husband's brother refuses to perpetuate

25:5-10 The Levirate law, by which a man would marry his brother's widow if his brother were to die without a son, was meant to keep bloodlines and inheritance within the family. The first son born of the second brother's union with the woman would be considered the child of the deceased brother and would receive his inheritance. It was from this perspective that the Sadducees posed the question to Christ regarding seven brothers who each married the same woman and left her childless (cf. Mt 22:23-33).
6:11-24 Angels are purely spiritual beings called to serve God as messengers and helpers of men and women. Before important points in salvation history, they usually appear as God's messengers for the purpose of preparing chosen people for God's intervention. One of the best-known instances is the Angel Gabriel's appearance to Mary to announce the Incarnation and Birth of Christ (cf. Lk 1:26). (CCC 328-332)

5And now the LORD says,
who formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob back to him, and that Israel might be gathered to him, for I am honored in the eyes of the LORD, and my God has become my strength— 6he says: "It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the preserved of Israel; I will give you as a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth."
is quite possible that Isaiah's contemporaries also understood that this verse refers to a virgin, not least because of the prophecy about a "sign," which normally referred to an extraordinary divine intervention. In
Matthew quotes this verse as evidence that the Messiah would be born of a virgin. Here is an instance of a prophecy having both an immediate meaning in the Old Testament and a future meaning in light of the New Testament.
Jesus Begins Preaching in Galilee 12 Now when he heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew into Galilee; 13and leaving Nazareth he went and dwelt in Caper'na-um by the sea, in the territory of Zeb'ulun and Naph'tali, 14that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: 15"The land of Zeb'ulun and the land of Naph'tali, toward the sea, across the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles 16the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned." 17From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, "Repent, for

The Word of God was announced on Mt. Sinai when God gave the Law to Moses; in the Sermon on the Mount, Christ proclaimed the New Law, which fulfills the Mosaic Law.
it directed them to the "promised land" of the Kingdom of Heaven wherein the saved will experience complete happiness, grace, beauty, and peace.

In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be enrolled. 2This was the first enrollment, when Quirin'ius was governor of Syria. 3And all went to be enrolled, each to his own city. 4And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5to be enrolled with Mary his betrothed, who was with child. 6And while they were there, the time came for her to be delivered. 7And she gave birth to her first-born * son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths,

The Parable of the Rich Fool 13 One of the multitude said to him, "Teacher, bid my brother divide the inheritance with me." 14But he said to him, "Man, who made me a judge or divider over you?" 15And he said to them, "Take heed, and beware of all covetousness; for a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." 16And he told them a parable, saying, "The land of a rich man brought forth plentifully; 17and he thought to himself, 'What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?' 18And he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns, and build larger ones; and there

The Parable of the Pharisees and the Tax Collector 9 He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and despised others: 10"Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 12I fast twice a week, I give tithes of all that I get.' 13But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be

He entered Jericho and was passing through. 2And there was a man named Zacchae'us; he was a chief tax collector, and rich. 3And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not, on account of the crowd, because he was small of stature. 4So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was to pass that way. 5And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchae'us, make haste and come down; for I must stay at your house today." 6So he made haste and came down, and received him joyfully. 7And when they saw it they all murmured, "He has gone in to be the

2:25 Consolation of Israel: The coming of the Messiah, the Redeemer—this term, as well as "redemption of Jerusalem," indicates that both Simeon and Anna were awaiting the Messiah and found their longing fulfilled in the Christ child. (CCC 711)
18:3 Widow: A woman whose husband had died had little means at her disposal and was dependent either on family or on the generosity
19:8-10 Zacchaeus pledged to detach himself from his riches and to compensate amply those whom he had cheated, essentially providing reparation for injustice and satisfaction for his sins. He welcomed the love of Christ and desired to respond to it in a still greater way. His repentance was thus complete, and he was restored to the grace of God. Fourfold: Under the law, the maximum sentence was to pay back in restitution four times the amount that was stolen. Sacramental forgiveness and social justice still requires restitution for what has been lost or stolen whenever possible. Son of

7Then after this he said to the disciples, Let us go into Judea again. 8The disciples said to him, Rabbi, the Jews were but now seeking to stone you, and are you going there again? 9Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any one walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. 10But if any one walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.
Spiritual blindness can often result from voluntary or involuntary doubt and can be a serious sin if it is deliberately cultivated.

But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come,r then through the greater and more perfect tentp (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) 12he entered once for all into the Holy Place, takings not the blood of goats and calves but his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.
Melchizedek (Hebrew for "king of righteousness") is a type, or figure, of Christ. He was the King of Salem ("peace"), identified as Jerusalem, who offered a sacrifice of bread and wine. Unlike the later priestly tribe of Levi, who were priests by ancestry, Melchizedek received his priesthood directly from God. Thus, he is "without father or mother or genealogy." (CCC 58, 1333, 1350)
