The U.S. forecast was less bleak, with a positive population growth rate of 0.2 percent, about the same as those of Britain and Canada. The best news for developed countries was confined unfortunately to smaller ones, led by Singapore and Australia. There the populations are still growing at a good pace, but for the global economy, these countries are too small to make up for weaker growth in all the bigger countries.
