Population forecasts for the developed world are quite discouraging for the 2015–20 period. Among the ten largest developed economies, the number of working-age people is expected to remain static in France, shrink a little in Spain, and contract at a rapid pace of 0.4 percent a year or more in Italy, Germany, and Japan.
