The first cracks in Muslim dominance appeared in the mid-1700s, when Muslims like Ibn Abd al-Wahhab and Shah Waliullah noticed that Christian lands were progressing into what would become the Industrial Revolution. They began to ask themselves how it could be that Muslims might lose dominance, given the promises of the Quran.
