And they win over this voting block by doing three things: Validating the mass’ envy by providing some rationale as to why other people are doing better than them (blame group “x” for your problems). Protecting their ego and pride so said people do not have to reflect upon or own up to their mistakes. Bailing them out so they are effectively shielded from bearing the full costs of their mistakes.
