Credlin had imposed a rule that ministers hated: they were restricted to one adviser on overseas trips. That meant they usually had to choose between a policy adviser and a press secretary. When Johnston and Stranger flew to Afghanistan for the closure of the Australian army base at Tarin Kot in Uruzgan province, they were stunned when Credlin and Abbott arrived with four or five staff, including Credlin’s personal assistant.
