But surely it was wonderful to be able to help – the only truly rewarding, worthwhile, thing you could do. And now this new-found knowledge pressed me to do something freely, willingly, something that even the day before I had felt was an intolerable sacrifice – namely to recognize the profound love of another person, and to feel profound gratitude for this love.
