The twelve apostles were not primarily organizers or coordinators of the work of the church. They were movement pioneers. Once the churches in Jerusalem, Judea, Galilee and Samaria—with thousands of believers—were consolidated, the apostles handed over the leadership.15 We are not told where Peter went. The author of Acts has other concerns. Luke assumes his readers know about the pioneering ministry of Peter and his wife (1 Corinthians 9:5; Galatians 2:11-14).
