Yet there’s an identity we have as followers of Jesus. It is an identity that every Christian gets to have, and it’s better than any other identification we have because it reflects our relationship with God.
What I’m saying is this: when I am being the person God created me to be, I glorify Him because my identity reveals God’s identity. That is, I reveal God’s Person when I’m who God created me to be.
Most problems in churches take place when people get out of the “service” mentality and into the “serve us” mentality. It’s a fact that when I’m helping to row the boat, I’m too busy to rock it. That’s what was happening in a church in the city of Corinth. This group had forgotten why they existed and Paul wanted to refresh their memory. They started thinking that God was there to serve them and
their desires, as opposed to what the Scriptures teach that we exist for God’s glory and God’s pleasure.
Most guys don’t think of gardening as a career. Yet every follower of Jesus is a spiritual gardener, tending to the lives of those around us and seeking that they reach their full bloom.
