the No. 3 line on the subway goes direct to Columbus Circle.

This is an error. The number 3 train doesn't stop at 59th. Change at Times Square for the 1 to get to Columbus Circle. Nevertheless, the book is not only very entertaining, but nicely evocative of parts of Paris with which I’m less familiar and also New York.
