When they drove between the trees, Ryder felt whole with his brothers around. It was nothing like jail, where he had some guys be friendly with the Nails as associates, but they weren’t real friends the way his club was. Sure, Dark was a pain in the ass, Axe liked to party too much, and Jed was too sexy for his own good, but they were family.
“I’m never forgetting that you tied weights to your legs and wanted to kill yourself today. I’m not letting you leave. Ever. Don’t do this kind of shit to me.”
“Kiss me,” whispered Ryder, his eyes soft and almost desperate as he begged for Jed’s touch.
It was cringeworthy to listen to Jed talking about the guy in the video with such contempt. Ryder clenched and unclenched his fists watching Jed fidget in his seat as his eyes betrayed a burning pain inside that no one could possibly understand. Even Ryder. By using a derogatory word, Jed was denying what he was as well, only fueling the disdain other Nails had for gay men. There was nothing dirty or wrong about the way Jed felt in his arms.
“Did you ever love me?” she asked, bringing him into a crash landing from his fantasy world. Ryder gave her a slight smile. “I did, but I couldn’t ever trust you after this,” he said, even though deep down he knew that if Jed betrayed him, Ryder would still rip his heart out trying to get him back. But he would not do that for Jess. He supposed there were degrees to the love one could feel.
