Muhammad had a concubine named Mary, who was a Coptic Christian, and he allowed his followers to possess an unlimited number of sex slaves (see Quran 23:5 – 6; 70:22 – 30). Early Muslims were even permitted to engage in a form of prostitution (called mutah), according to which a Muslim could pay a woman for sex, marry her for a short time (perhaps a few hours), and then divorce her when finished.
