Bread, Wine, Chocolate: The Slow Loss of Foods We Love

In 1989, witches’ broom was introduced to cacao-producing areas of Brazil in what was widely believed to be a deliberate act of biological terrorism.78 Less than 10 years later, the country went from being the second largest cocoa producer in the world to an importer of beans.79

That answer is personal to each of us, but when something exquisite is so close, shouldn’t we wait for it and fight for it? For me, the answer is clear: Yes. If I had wanted to settle—in life, in love, in chocolate—I would have done so a long time ago.
