On my lunch break, I went to the dollar store and hauled back a giant bag of candy, which I then set out in a dish on the edge of my desk. I also casually placed my pack of Marlboro Light 100s in plain view, a sign they were available for bumming. Finally, I stashed all the menus of the local restaurants in my top drawer, so if anyone ever got hungry, they’d come to me to place their order. Very quickly, my desk became the social center of the office.
