Seth Godin describes “the dip” in his book with the same title as “the long slog between starting and mastery,” “the difference between the easy beginner’s technique and the more useful expert approach in skiing or fashion design,” and “the long stretch between beginner’s luck and real accomplishment.”
This taught me that reading one idea, in one book, at the right time, in the proper context, has a much greater impact than reading ten books at an unrelated time.
The same book read at a different point in your life (different context) can reveal nuggets you never saw before. This happens to me all the day. I have a go to list of favorites that I read and re-read. Each time I get something wonderful out of it.
readers never let their minds fall into the default mode. They read with purpose and intention. They follow the “deliberate reading” approach presented in this book.
