Michael Ontkean, who played Sheriff Truman on the show, told a Rolling Stone reporter that Lynch one day reached into his pocket as they were about to roll camera and pulled out “the ear from Blue Velvet.” Lynch corrected the journalist: It wasn’t the same ear. Someone had sent it to him “and I just happened to have it in my pocket.”
