The Lynch profiles from the time of Twin Peaks home in on quirks and oddities. Michael Ontkean, who played Sheriff Truman on the show, told a Rolling Stone reporter that Lynch one day reached into his pocket as they were about to roll camera and pulled out “the ear from Blue Velvet.” Lynch corrected the journalist: It wasn’t the same ear. Someone had sent it to him “and I just happened to have it in my pocket.”
Another frequently repeated story had it that Lynch kept a preserved uterus on his desk. This turned out to have been a gift from Raffaella De Laurentiis, who had a hysterectomy and thought Lynch would appreciate the souvenir. (He was still answering questions about the uterus nearly twenty years later: “It was never on my desk,” he said in 2007, “it’s somewhere in the house.”)
