Lament presents the opportunity to call out to God for his mercy. It acknowledges the need for God’s justice and mercy that does not arise out of one’s own strength and ability. Lament challenges the church to acknowledge real suffering and plead with God for his intervention. The book of Lamentations raises an important question about the value of persistent lament.
