The world is filled with monsters hiding in human skins. Just like people, some are bad, and some are good.
She’d reckoned that one day, for some reason as yet unknown, someone would actually look at her instead of through her.
“As I see it, you have two choices, the same choice as every animal. Hunt or be hunted. What will you choose?”

Nettie needed to do: Stand up and get on with life.
“There’s a reason animals live in groups and people live in tribes and cities. When we get off alone, we start to go a bit crazy. People need to be touched and talked to, they need to know somebody else in the world cares. You take that away, and you have a monster.
Little one that I love, you are two creatures with one spirit. Reach down inside, deep inside, and find the golden core of you, connecting you to the earth and sky, the trail the moon leaves on water. Pull it like a rope, inside out, and know that you are perfect in either skin.”
