Neo-Darwinism attributes mutations to accidental copying mistakes in replicating the genes; if the genetic error enhances the organism’s survivability, the mutation is selected to propagate. This suggests that the direction of evolutionary advancement is accidental and unpredictable . . . how’s that for a tautology!
