In our modern culture of hyperactivity and stress, we are seldom asked what we have carried into the world as a gift for the community. The frequent question is: “What do you do for a living?” Or worse: “How you do earn a living?” I find that question obscene. We have gone from being seen as valuable to the community, a carrier of gifts, to having to earn a living. No one asks, “What is the gift you carry in your soul? What have you brought with you into the heart of the village?”
