Researchers Richard Arum and Josipa Roksa studied a wide range of students who were tested during their first year at college and in their final year at college. They found that the typical American college student gains very little in terms of critical thinking ability between the beginning of the freshman year and the end of the senior year. Approximately one-third of students do not improve more than 1 point on a 100-point scale.
