His secret was found in the name of his classic devotional, Practicing the Presence of God. Brother Lawrence enjoyed God. He delighted himself in the Lord and experienced Him in everything he did. This connection with God was a perpetual source of joy that enabled him to treat others with grace and humility. It allowed him to be himself.
I have a long way to go on my journey. Most of us probably do. I am beginning to realize how much of my life has been about pain-avoidance, false expectations, and a burdensome view of Christianity that was molded by behavior-focused discipleship and the attacks of the enemy.
