“Not a sad sack,” she says eventually, as she twists a lock of hair around her finger. “Just a concerned one. But I admit I am about ten pounds of concern in a five-pound sack.” “Right. I think we’ve carried the sack metaphor about as far as it will go.”
“You don’t know this yet, but your Uncle Alex can be a real pain in the aaaaa… bacus.” One day he will get a better handle on his language in front of his daughter. He will. He’s improving all the time. Really.
He’s still not entirely over the fact that this can no longer be a solution—it’s so direct and efficient—but sadly, boxing injuries, the knowledge that his homeowner’s insurance probably won’t cover damage to someone else’s apartment and the fact that he’s got his nine-month-old daughter strapped to his chest like a bomb puts a damper on that kind of fun.
