In the first volume of these interviews, I noted that there were three themes which seemed to come out strongly in those particular conversations: the Germans’ motivation in defending a ‘United Europe,’ their apparent shock at the aggression of the Allied troops, and the overwhelming firepower and air superiority of the Allies.
