The saying, “Hear both sides,” is quoted by choruses in Greek plays as if it is part of ancient wisdom; Aeschylus mentions it at the same time as doubting whether oaths are reliable, thus marking the transition to deliberately rational thought, which the Greeks made in this area as in so many others.
