I remember speaking at a Unity church one night. When I got through, a woman asked me if I thought there was really a mass awakening going on, and if the world was really in trouble. I curved my arm over my head and pointed down at it. “Madam, if this,” I said in reference to myself, “if this is at the front of the room talking, believe me the world is in trouble!”
Meister Eckhart, Christian mystic of the 13th and 14th centuries, said “People want to see God with their own eyes, the way they see a cow.” This is the way of the intellect. Alas, we cannot, because that which is seeing the cow is not other than the cow.
We always know what we know, but we never know what we don't know. If we can keep this little maxim in mind, we may be able to stay open and humble enough to receive more, and more, and more.
