Unless the super-intelligences felt they had to destroy us (why would they bother?), we could go on living as we’ve always done. We might bear the same relation to the super-intelligent beings as bacteria do to us—but so what? Two billion years ago bacteria were the dominant form of life on Earth, and by many measures (species longevity, total biomass, ability to withstand global catastrophe, and so on) they still are.
