This is why Doenitz has gotten Hitler’s approval to double the production of U-boats. The production schedule has been so effective that Doenitz pushed the offensive forward a month. The U-boats are also using a new method of attack. Now they will first strike the escort vessels. Torpedoes, guns and radio location apparatus have been upgraded. The U-boats can escape detection by Allied bombers in the Bay of Biscay, the main route to and from the Atlantic battlefield, because they can spot the Allied planes first.
