At least twelve independent tank battalions (Tigers and Panthers), plus ten depot divisions that are training troops and several other “field divisions,” will be under “the control of General ‘HUROMU’ in Germany.” In reality, this means that Hitler controls von Rundstedt’s reserves. If the invasion planners can create enough confusion in the communications between the beaches of Normandy and Berlin, Hitler will not be able to make a rational decision about when, where and how to commit his reserves. In turn this means von Rundstedt will be forced to fight without knowing where his reserves are, or when he can count on their arrival.
