Raahosh stands out from the others in a few different ways. For one, he's the tallest. Which isn't much of a thing considering they all stand above seven feet, but it makes him seem to tower more than most. His shoulders aren't as broad as Vektal's, which means he's only enormous, instead of gargantuan. And while Vektal seems to be more of a pure blue, Raahosh is a darker shade, a grayish blue shade that just makes him seem like more of an Eeyore than the others.
This is like me saying "I want a cheeseburger" and someone slapping a pickle into my hand and saying "Fuck you, you get a pickle."
All I know is that I am resonating for one of the dying humans, and if she dies, she takes all my hopes and dreams with her.
She is stubborn. My khui chose well in that aspect. I am stubborn, too. Together, we will make very stubborn kits. A bit of the resentment in my heart leaves at the mental image of the human holding my child to her breast. I would have a family after so long.
I'll take her and hide her away, and I won't return with her until she is full of my child and we are truly mated. Then we will return to the clan and be part of it once more. Until then? She is mine and mine alone.
She will be my first everything. My first mate. My first lover. The mother of my children.
“Don’t move,” I tell him. “I’m getting you out of here. It’s going to be fine.” “Leave…me…” he pants. “I am too wounded.” “Bullshit,” I tell him, though he’s voicing my worst fears. “You’re fine! You just need to rest and recover for a few days. Let the cootie do its work!” “You’re….not….safe.” His eyes slide closed again. “I’m fine,” I bellow a little louder than I need to. I lean forward and grab Raahosh by the collar. “Are you listening to me? I’m fine, and you’re going to be fine. Don’t you die on me!” He doesn’t answer, and I panic a little. I shake him, eliciting another wounded groan

Liz is mine. My mate. My everything.
“Before you arrived here in this world, I had nothing to live for. I hunted. I existed. I did not look forward to anything. But now you are here, and you might be carrying my child even now.” His jaw flexes. “I know you are more than capable. The problem is not with you. It is with me. This world is dangerous, and I think of you, alone, out in the wild, and it is more than I can bear.” He stares at me for so long and so hard that I think his jaw is going to snap from grinding his teeth. “If I lose you,” he finally says gruffly, “I have nothing.”
“You are my everything, Liz,” he murmurs before he kisses me.
my Raahosh
As the hour grows late, Liz yawns and puts her cheek on my arm. “Can we go to bed now, baby?” She is calling me the love word of her people. My heart swells and my khui begins a soft resonance in my chest. “Of course.” I stand up and pull her to her feet.
my mate.”
I get down in the bed next to Liz and she immediately burrows against me, her cold hands moving under my vest and pressing against my skin. I endure it stoically; I want her to be comfortable and warm. My arms go around her, holding her close, and I tuck her small head under my chin. My khui sings a song of protest, but I am content. With Liz in my arms, the world outside does not matter at the moment.
“I just wanted to make you feel good. For you to know I’m with you.” A little giggle escapes her throat, the sound sweet and musical. “And for them to know I’m with you, too.” Clever Liz. She pleasures me with her mouth so the others can know she’s with me willingly? My mate is devious…and wonderful. I pull her against me, feeling my khui resonate in time with hers. “You are everything to me, Liz,” I say softly. “My world. My heart.”
“I love you, Liz.”
Suddenly, there are people pouring into the small nook. Hands grab me and I scream as I’m tugged out of Raahosh’s arms. He bellows like a wounded animal and begins to fight, and I see arms and legs flying – not all his – as he struggles to get back to me. They hold him down and separate us, and I watch, tears blurring my eyes, as they drag my struggling mate out of the cave.
